Campus Dining and Shops at the University at Buffalo is now hiring Full-Time Dishwashers at its North Campus (Amherst) Location!  
$13.75/hour, benefits included, plus yearly increases based on union contract

Must have open availability


To oversee and lead the dish area and dining room employees. Perform routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions and appearance of food service units. Sweeping, mopping, changing garbages and cleaning bathrooms as well as additional duties as assigned by management.   Cleaning and providing preventative maintenance on equipment and light fixtures.  During service, primary duty is to wash pots & pans by hand in a three bay sink as well as operating a commercial dish machine by following established procedures.



  • Minimum 2 years experience in previous dishroom, cleaning, receiving and janitorial maintenance experience preferred
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high-volume operation
  • Experience in directing work assignments of support staff
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to communicate well with customers and management
  • Must be a Certified Trainer or on the path to receiving certification
  • Must be detail oriented to ensure dishes are adequately clean before being re-stocked
  • Professional appearance, demeanor, and hygiene required
  • Must be able to lift 60+ pounds, and be able to sit, stand, and walk for 8 hours per day, and bend and reach as the job requires
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Must be cross-trained in both receiving and dishwashing or willing and able to be trained to work and train employees in both areas including training new hires and student workers
  • Regular attendance required, attendance at training sessions is required as needed

PRESENT JOB ASSIGNMENTS (Please note that these assignments are subject to change):

  • Primarily work in the dishroom, cleaning and organizing pots, pans, and china or in receiving checking invoices, properly storing and rotating product as it is delivered and labeling product
  • Responsible for placing cleaned dishes in proper storage areas for reuse
  • Point person to communicate with manager during peak periods, ensures all staff takes proper breaks and maintains staffing levels during peak periods
  • Maintain high sanitary, hygienic, and safety standards and conditions, adhering to HACCP & NYS Dept. of Health guidelines. Includes cleanliness & maintenance of kitchen & equipment.
  • Direct work assignments of support staff in dish and dining room area and train student workers as well as new hires
  • Must maintain a well-stocked and clean dining environment
  • Some floor cleaning, busing and washing of tables, emptying trash, stocking, etc.
  • Cleaning and maintaining bathrooms, dining service units seating areas
  • Must be willing to cross-train in other areas as well as train new hires and student employees
  • Receiving duties and other general cleaning, sanitation and duties as requested by management.
