Job Title: Recruiter

Reports To: Director of Human Resources

Position Summary:

The Recruiter supports the Director of Human Resources in the day to day operations of the department.  Primary responsibilities include focus on recruitment and retention efforts, employee relations activities, and in the administration and oversight of accident investigations and workers compensation claims.  The Recruiter also assists and oversees HR-related training and participates in development, improvement, and implementation of HR programs and HR documentation.  The position is cross trained in administration of benefits, training and development, compliance, and will provide support in all other administrative tasks.


Expected Hours of Work:   

This is a full time, exempt salaried position with a minimum requirement of 40 hours per week.  Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend work required during peak periods and as job duties require.  Additional hours are required at the start of school in August and January along with any special events held throughout the course of the year. 

Essential Functions:

  • Full cycle recruitment including leading and establishing the process for job postings, identifying suitable candidates, conducting phone and in-person screenings and interviews, following the selection process, reference and background checks, negotiating job offers, and preparing orientation documents to ensure quality hires 
  • Partners with operations managers to develop recruiting plans and execute recruiting/sourcing strategies, ensures candidates and staff are kept informed of the status of the hiring processes
  • Ensures staffing processes meet legal requirements including updating of job descriptions and position requirements
  • Develops and maintains multiple recruitment channels to ensure a stable pool of qualified candidates. Includes attendance and execution of external and internal job fairs/recruitment events.
  • Maintains a visible presence, responds to information requests which may include searching for answers with appropriate staff, and shares HR-related information as required with HR and line leadership
  • Workers compensation claims monitoring and administration, report generation, and communication with employees, managers, insurance carriers, medical personnel and lawyers
  • Processes and reviews accident reports and investigations.  Submits worker's compensation claims to ensure they are in compliance with organizational policies and procedures
  • Manages workers compensation files, ensures all parties are kept updated regarding Dr. visits, changes in medical status/care, updates to work restrictions, discharge from care, and claim denials
  • Conducts frequent and ongoing reviews of each case to ensure the file is reserved appropriately, documented timely, and that the insurance adjuster has implemented an aggressive action plan to resolve each claim in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Provides hands-on case management of claims
  • Completes monthly, quarterly, and annual report generation and analysis including OSHA annual regulatory reporting
  • Coordinate with vendors to schedule mandated safety and security trainings for the appropriate staff
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures and stays up to date on changes to HR legal issues affecting the organization
  • Executes and analyzes data of internal employee surveys, turnover reports, and hiring reports
  • Coordinates and/or delivers HR related training events and programs
  • Participates in development, improvement and implementation of HR related in programs in areas such as onboarding, policy development, supervisory and leadership development, succession planning, performance management, etc.
  • Maintains regular & reliable attendance
  • Assists other members of the Human Resources team when needed and performs other duties as assigned


Education and Training:

Bachelor's degree in HR, Business or related field or equivalent years of experience
Minimum of 2 years' experience in Human Resources


Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with food service or hospitality industry preferred
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community, and with vendors
  • Strong computer skills and proficient with MS Office tools
  • Exceptional attention to detail while maintaining a big picture perspective
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently; must be a self-starter with a proactive working style
  • Strong organization skills and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Valid driver's license


Work Environment:

The position operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopies, phones, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.

The position requires travel between the three UB campuses using public transportation or your own personal vehicle. 


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
  • The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
  • The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and or move up to 25 lbs
