Job Title: Human Resource Training and Development Assistant


Reports To: Director of Human Resources


Position Summary:

This position is responsible for creating and maintaining positive relationships with vocational services and programs within our community including but not limited to food service and hospitality internship programs, refugee programs, job placement programs, and others.  Responsible for onboarding and orientation for all CDS employees and organizational development.  This position is responsible for supporting the administration and functions of the HR office and Corporate Job Trainer and assisting with Training and Development team activities as needed.   

Essential Functions:

Training and Recruitment

           Assists the Recruiter in finding, developing, and maintaining positive relationships with vocational service providers within the community (food service and hospitality interns, PACE Program, vocational service programs, refugee programs, job placement programs)

           Counsel and support both the employee, agency, and manager when job performance is not satisfactory, work to improve job performance and gain necessary skills to be successful

           Assists in providing a variety of group and one-on-one training such as food sanitation, kitchen practices, safety, cash handling, shrinkage, prevention, customer service, employee orientation, supervisory skills, and any other implemented training. 

           Maintains close communication between Recruiter and Corporate Job Trainer

           Conducts new hire orientation training programs for students and union employees. 

           Assists with creating and updating the Human Resource Training program for CDS employees on organizational policies and procedures with the other members of the Human Resource department.

           Conducts and participates in other training programs throughout the year as needed.

           Works with Corporate Job Trainer and Recruiter on training and development of candidates from various employment services programs and sources including Refugee programs and other community initiatives for job placement. (PACE program, Blind Commission, Heritage Centers)

           Communicate with job coaches from employment agencies on a regular basis.


Organizational Development

           Conducts or assists with administration of surveys, programs, and customer service techniques.

           Gathers, analyses, and monitors data to identify trends and develops strategies for improvement.

           Communicates with managers on a frequent basis regarding employment programs and services. 


Administrative Support

           Assists in setting up job coaching services, interpreters, and provides assistance in educating employment site services and support services of opportunities we offer.

           Creates, edits, and maintains procedural and technical documentation. 

           Assists with updating and maintenance of Restaurant Operation Reviews (ROR's) for all operations on campus and completes the audits when needed. 

           Assists with tracking of training courses and programs and maintains all training records.

           Must be able to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural, religious, and general backgrounds and employees with disabilities


Education and Training:

           Associate's Degree or higher required in Business, Education, Communication, or a related.


Desired Qualifications:

           Must have exceptional communication skills

           Familiar with training in food service industry and be able to conduct training classes

           Ability to effectively motivate and train employees with positive results

           Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines and provide advanced planning

           Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends based on business needs

           Strong computer skills including spreadsheets, word processing, desktop publishing, e-mail, Internet research, and multimedia

           Experience working with limited English proficiency populations and knowledge of local vocational and refugee programs

           Ability to adapt to a changing employment climate


Physical Demands:

           Good visual acuity for reading reports, computer work, etc.

           Ability to lift, bend, reach, and any other physical demands of the position.

           Ability to walk and stand for up to 8 hours per day.
